Founded in 2011, Indemic is a full service Product Design and Industrial Design consulting company operating from Taranaki. Formerly based in Auckland, our clients come from far and wide, both within New Zealand and abroad, and range from established manufacturing companies, to technology startups and entrepreneurial inventors. Indemic is a team of 3 Industrial Designers, one toolmaker/engineer and one part-time electronics guru/programmer.
The heart of our process is Industrial Design and Design Thinking - undertaking deep research to develop robust user-insights which underpin groundbreaking innovation. We apply a creative process of conceptualisation and physical creation to synthesise insights into tangible ideas, tested and validated against our hypotheses and assumptions. We employ a process of iterative refinement, often using low-volume fabrication and 3D-printing methods, and robust evaluation in order to ensure our ideas are suitably scrutinised. The majority of our testing and prototyping is undertaken in-house, and we work alongside our clients to commence market validation processes early, such that commercial objectives are maintained throughout a given project. We then undertake the process of engineering and design for manufacture (DFM) - in some cases manufacturing in-house on behalf of our clients. We have a full prototyping workshop, clean assembly area, machine shop and production metalworking machinery, as well as collaborate with a number of manufacturing companies both locally and internationally, including our own sourcing agents. We also provide support around developing market insights, Intellectual Property Protection, brand development, production support, Callaghan R&D grant access, supporting in-house innovation capability, and connection into our manufacturing ecosystem.
